All About Nature - How we got started

We have been keeping a Nature Journal since May of 2012.. She was 2 years 3 months old.

I am NOT an outdoorsy person at all! But I knew that when I had her that I had to evolve and get over my lack of "outsideness"!

So we started a nature journal, nature walks, and nature exploration....after I read about the importance of children being outside mainly from the Charlotte Mason philosophy of teaching.

We started collecting treasures from our explorations.

We started reading about birds, animals, trees, flowers, woodland creatures..

We visited the Nashville Nature Center weekly.

Most importantly we started spending tons of time outside.

Sometimes listening for birds.

Sometimes searching for rocks.

Feathers.

Gathering fallen leaves and flowers then coming home to research and find out what types they are.

These are leaf rubs we did.

These are some spring wild flowers and leaves. We dried them with wax paper and then used large strapping tape to preserve them.

I started learning right along with Pipiri.

We put some in our Nature Journal.

We wrote journal entries.

We collected some in jars. Then labeled them all...upcycling our baby food jars.

We made seasonal nature tables with some of our finds.
